more practical than pretty

I've owned here for about 13 years and the cost is still the part I question the most. The monthly cost hurts more than I expected and would make me compare a few nearby areas. It is the kind of place where you start recognizing the same people after a while. The commute has been fine most days, though I still plan around the busy times. I would check the specific neighborhood instead of assuming the whole ZIP feels the same.

more practical than fun

my experience around Kensington has been mostly positive for about 2 years, but it is not a fit for everyone. There is plenty around for daily life, though getting anywhere at the wrong time can test your patience. The safety picture feels pretty average, so I would let the exact block decide it. The exact neighborhood still matters more than the town name.

the ZIP does not tell the whole story

As a parent in Kensington, I would start with the assigned school and work backward from there. The school picture looks pretty solid to me, but I would still check the assigned one. I would ask people near the actual address how they feel about the area. I would still drive the exact block at different times before making a decision.

the daily drive gets old

CommuterLived here 3 years

The location has worked well for my commute for about 3 years, which makes the other tradeoffs easier to accept. The work trip is manageable as long as I leave at the right time. Transit helps when the route lines up with where you are going, but it does not cover my whole routine. It works for me, but I would rent first if you are unsure about the area.

good enough for daily life

I've worked from home in Kensington for about 6 years and it is a decent home base. My drive is usually reasonable, but Maryland traffic can change that fast. The access is the main reason I would choose this area, and the price is the main reason I might not. You can make the numbers work, but there are definitely cheaper places farther out.
